Cemeteries & Statues

One of the most stunning and sorrowful statues I’ve photographed is “The Angel of Grief''. My first interaction with this sculpture was in the Metarie Cemetery at New Orleans in the Chapman H. Hyams mausoleum. The original statue was created by William Wetmore Story in Italy. He was a Harvard Law School graduate who abandoned his law career to follow his passion - art. He moved his family to Rome and studied all of the arts, including sculpturing. When his wife passed, his children convinced him to create something for her, which now is the Angel of Grief. This was his last sculpture and he only survived her by a year. These stories are what helps us connect and understand each other better as humans.

Fall

Hey Loves!

How did you like the week one challenge?  Did you find any cool statues or visit any cemeteries? You can still post if you’d like.  Just post your creations and use the hashtags #marydalba and #spookyoct so we can find your awesome stuff!

This week’s theme is “FALL”. What does the time of Fall mean to you?  Apples, leaves, chill in the air? Or celebrations of Halloween and Samhain? Does it mean spooky time and weather changing times?  We’d love to see your ideas - be as creative as you’d like!

Fall always reminds me of the time we go inward. The sun sets earlier, the world is more in silence and twilight. We get to reflect more on ourselves and our world.  It helps us get to know ourselves even better and we can go into our depths to understand ourselves more.

Whatever Fall means to you, grab a snapshot, poem,  writing, do what speaks to you!

Have fun and see you next week!
