End your suffering: Are You Familiar with The Four Agreements?

I am an avid book reader. I am one of these people that loves bookstores and any place I can sit holding a book or my kindle. Why discriminate?  Words on a page makes me smile (And I’m the easiest person to shop for - BOOK STORE GIFT CARDS.)

In my travels, there are books I’ve pulled a lot of nuggets from but a few have stayed with me through the years after I’ve put it down. “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz is one of those books. The book is based on the wisdom of the Toltecs. Living life through the Four Agreements outlined in the book can reduce suffering and change how we interact with people, hence opening our lives to more love and happiness.

So what are these magical Four Agreements?

  1. Be impeccable with your word.

  2. Don't take anything personally.

  3. Don't make assumptions.

  4. Always do your best.

Simple, right?

I know, for me, and also other people I’ve presented this to, it seems almost impossible to follow all of the agreements all of the time.

Right now, though, we are in practice all of the time. We didn’t come to the planet as a being that had it right in every moment. In fact, that’s part of the reason WHY we came here at this time - because we’re trying to not only elevate our interactions on the human level but on a soul level for ourselves and each other. In other words, we’re just trying to be the best versions of ourselves and help others do the same. What an exciting time!

Meanwhile, we can take these Four Agreements as part of our overall practice, our daily striving to be even more amazing people. Having a blueprint for our life journey can be helpful. I found that The Four Agreements helped me with a way to be happy. Let’s see if you can take some pieces of it for your own practice and change how things are going, if that’s a goal for you right now.

In my Bloomin’ Blog Series, which are all available and linked above. In each post, we’ll tackle each agreement. How can we utilize this in our daily lives to create more happiness and understanding? We’ll explore together. If you’d like to read the book, you can check it out here - “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz.
